Soul Peace

The Following is an excerpt from a satsang by Pujya Niruma a Self-Realized Gnani addressing many spiritual seekers.

Pujya Niruma: Jai Sat Chit Anand. I have come for the first time in Halore. Deepakbhai has come before.  If you have heard about Dada Bhagwan, have read his literature or know something about him and want to know something more, please feel free to ask questions. If you have come for the first time and do not know anything, even then please ask questions because there are no secrets here. You just have to understand everything; you have to understand the main idea. We have done a lot of bhakti (religious worship), a lot of virtuous meditation (dhyan), we have practiced religion (dharma), we have worshipped god’s idols, we have heard speeches of saints or devotees. We have done many such things but what results did we achieve at the end of it all? How much of whatever we observed and learned did we actually apply to our own life? In other words, after doing all these things, did we gain any internal peace? Did our worries and tensions decrease? Did it reduce our anger, pride, greed, attachment, hatred, infatuation, jealousy, disparity etc? That is the criteria that should be tested. We should make an assessment of ourselves and find out. Only then will we know where we actually stand. And if we find nothing at the end of this assessment, if we find that we did not learn anything, soon our life will be over and it will be time to take our last breath and we would remain at the same level as before. Then again we will take a new birth. In fact we have taken so many births. From time immemorial we have taken many births and in many different life forms.  We have acquired a birth as a human with great difficulty hence we should understand its value and if we do not get the right guidance for making the best use of this human birth then it will be shameful for us.  All this is worth understanding. Our soul has roamed in innumerable life forms; it has roamed in many different places of creation. In all there are 84 lacs (eight million four hundred thousand) places or forms of creation, and in any one place of creation there are millions of different types of species. One yoni (life form) does not mean just one birth; one yoni includes so many different types of births. We have passed through all these before taking a human birth. Not only that but we have also taken so many different births as a human; we have faced many difficulties, a lot of ups and downs.  We have even taken birth as an animal (janawar gati), we have also taken birth in hell (nark gati) and we have even taken birth as celestials (devgati) but even then it didn’t end this cycle of birth and death.  The fact it has not come to an end can be proved because we are present here right now. Not only that but what about all our sufferings, why do we suffer? So we should understand all this and why it happens.  Do you understand?  Do you get the point? We should make the optimum use of this human birth and make it successful. And this can happen only when we become free from all our worries, problems, tensions etc. in spite of this body if we experience inner peace, pleasure, freedom from all our suffering, if we can experience all this in this very life, then we can say that it was somewhat successful.

In order to achieve this, we should understand and accept the path shown to us by the Gnanis (enlightened beings). Our understanding will help us to follow the path. To begin with we do not understand the value of such a path. We do not understand it’s importance. In short we have to make this human birth successful. All of us have been born and brought up in our own way with our family. We have learnt many things from our elders thus some seeds of religion and spirituality are there in us.  Just look at all these children; they are so young, still they come here with their parents to attend the spiritual discourses (satsang) or they go to the temple and other such places. All this doesn’t go in vain. Some karmic seeds get incorporated within them and when these seeds get water from somewhere, when they get sunlight and all other circumstances come together, these seeds will grow.  The seed will grow into a plant; it will then become a tree and give fruits.  These fruits will be sweet.  Are you getting this?  But despite doing all this and practicing religion, people reach a stage where they become puzzled.  There is one question that bothers all of us, that despite doing so much, despite sincerely following religious practices, despite believing that god is with us all the time, despite accepting god as being everything to us; being our creator, destroyer and that our life is his hands, why do we have suffering? In spite of so much devotion and belief, we all have to face tremendous sorrow at times and there comes a time when we begin to feel that before god was taking care of us but now he has abandoned us or he is upset with us.  We question why he makes us suffers so.  If god does everything, then why does he make me suffer so much? If he is the doer, then why is he doing all this? And not only me but so many people everywhere are suffering too. People are unhappy, nobody is happy.  So in all that we do; somewhere there is a mistake.  There is some error in our understanding or somewhere god is making a mistake that all of us are living with such complications and are unable to get any solution for it.

Many people stop believing in god when they have to face such situations and find no answers.  Then if they find some little happiness they forget everything, they forget all their suffering, they forget about their search for the real meaning of life, the real understanding of god and once more they get lost again. Before they know it, their life ends, they take another birth and the suffering continues.
