Renounce (tyaag) if it is in your prakruti (inherent nature). Do penance (tapa) if it is in your prakruti. Chant (japa) if it is in your prakruti. But except for the attainment of the Self, everything else is a waste.
Param Pujya Dada BhagwanWhatever the world does, is indeed all a natural discharge [disposal of karma]. You may chant God’s name, you may do penance; it is all nature’s discharge. If someone garlands you, how is he obliging you? And if someone picks your pocket, how is he hurting you? One is instrumental in the charging (creation of new karma), but in the discharge, it is only nature’s doing. This is the ultimate vision of the Vitraags, the Enlightened ones free of attachment.
Param Pujya Dada BhagwanThe chit (inner component of knowledge and vision) is to be kept in the eternal element [the Self]. It has to be kept in the real form as the Self (Swaroop). Chanting, penance, meditation, yoga, mantra; those are not eternal things. Those are all temporary adjustments. No thing is eternal. The Self alone is eternal. If the chit has set within the Self, then it will not wander! That is when there will be freedom (mukti)!
