Who is Dada Bhagwan? And why is he called Bhagwan?

His name was Ambalal Muljibhai and he was a contractor by profession. He became a Gnani Purush in 1958. It was towards dusk one day in June, while sitting on a railway bench on platform 3 in Surat, waiting for a train, amidst the commotion of jostling crowds of travelers that a natural and spontaneous phenomenon occurred. ‘Dada Bhagwan’, the Lord within Ambalal Patel began to manifest.

When asked about this Dadashri used to say “What you see here is not ‘Dada Bhagwan.’ What you see is ‘A.M.Patel.’ I am a Gnani Purush and He that is manifested within me, is Dada Bhagwan’. He is the Lord within. He is within you and everyone else. He has not yet manifested within you, whereas within me he is fully manifested. I myself, am not a Bhagwan. I too bow down to Dada Bhagwan within me.”

What happened during the phenomenon of Self Realization?

This phenomenon was the culmination of his spiritual seeking and efforts of many previous lives. The vision of the universe was attained within one hour. The answers to all spiritual questions were answered through this vision. What is this world? How is it governed? How does it run? Who am I? Who are we all? What is karma? What is bondage? What is liberation? What is the secret of liberation? How can moksha be attained? Countless such answers and explanations unfolded in this process.

Did it occur because of  his past spiritual endeavors?

The phenomenon was the culmination of his spiritual seeking and efforts of many previous lives. The expression of the spiritual knowledge was complete and spontaneous and this science has now come to be known as Akram Vignan.

Did it occur naturally by itself or did he have to meditate for it?

It occurred on its own; it was but natural. He did not do any such meditation. He did have some inkling that he would be blessed with some light of the Self. His heart was pure. He had done everything with a pure heart and that is why he felt that he would acquire something worthy, such as Self-realization. He felt he would acquire some light of knowledge, but instead what manifested was total radiance of the absolute knowledge.

What did he do before this gnan manifested within him?

After birth, he observed the religions of the Vaishnavs, of Swaminarayans, of Shivs, and many others. After that, he studied Shrimad Rajchandra. Then he read all Lord Mahavir’s books. He read extensively. This is all he did everyday while conducting his worldly business of construction.

There was nothing in this world that he had not thought about; that is why this Gnan manifested. In the time we say just two words, he would analyze the entire poem. With five thousand revolutions of thought processes per minute going on within him, he was able to extract the essence of any scripture, within two minutes.

Why did he not become renounced?

There was no need for renunciation. It is not that he disliked renunciation, but he did not see any reason for it. Besides, he believed that the worldly life did not obstruct liberation. He believed very strongly in that, it is not the worldly life that obstructs liberation, it is the ignorance of the Self that does.

What inspired him to spread akram vignan?

The inspiration to spread akram vignan came naturally. He felt the desire to make others experience the same bliss that he experienced. He had tremendous desire for the salvation of the world.

Why do we do “Dada Bhagwan na Aseem jai jai kar ho” ?

Recitation of ‘Dada Bhagwan Na Aseem Jay Jay Kar Ho’ is ‘bhakti’ of ‘Pratyaksh Parmatma’ (The Supreme Lord Himself). Dada Bhagwan is not a person, but is actually your own Pure Soul. Therefore, this is bhakti of one’s own Real nature.
Chant “Dada Bhagwan Na Asim Jay Jay Kar Ho” loudly for 10 minutes to one hour with closed eyes as if reading each word.
